Name any skin care procedure. Too much anything is bad. Read on to know more!
Before you look for an answer to the question whether too much derma rolling can ruin your skin or not, it is advisable to first understand how it works.
What is a Derma Roller?
A derma roller is a handheld device comprising of a small roller. This sterile roller has multiple sharp needles that are used to puncture the target skin area. Before a derma rolling session, the target skin area on your face has to be disinfected with the help of a good quality disinfectant. Since the puncturing process can of course be slightly painful, it is advisable to apply a good, Lidocaine based topical anesthetic too. Post the application of a numbing cream (around 20-30 minutes), derma rolling can be carried out easily, without inviting too much discomfort.
How Derma Rolling Skin Care Procedure Work?
It’s pretty straightforward. During the course of a derma rolling session, tiny punctures are created on the facial skin. Basically, the skin tissues are damaged in a certain way during this process. Punctures that are created around 1.5-2mm deep on the skin also result in minor bleeding but all that is part of the procedure. Creation of multiple micro-bruises is followed by skin’s natural response – create more collagen and heal all of the skin tissues. It is during this self-healing process that the skin regains its natural texture.
What if You Use a Derma Roller Too Often?
It is advisable not to do that. Since the skin would need enough time for self-healing, it is important to space out all derma rolling sessions accurately. Generally, most patients would need a total of 3 to 4 derma rolling sessions, approx. 4 weeks apart. Do not try using a derma roller every week as it will only result in more skin damages.
