How to use Derma Roller

Derma rolling is the cosmetic procedure that lets you effectively fight against skin aging. It works on a dual basis – one, it leads to an increased production of collagen in the skin, which helps in keeping the skin firm, elastic and supple; and second, it opens the pores of the skin to allow better absorption of the skin care products. The next question that arises in the minds of people is how to use a Derma Roller!

Home Use v/s Hospital Use

The first question that most people have is whether derma rolling can be carried out at home, or hospital? Actually, derma rolling is possible at home, and in hospitals too; the difference lies in the use of the needles. The needles used in the hospitals have a thickness of 0.5 to 2.5 mm, whereas for home use, needled that are 2.5mm thick, are recommended. This is because in hospitals, depending on the type of derma treatment, practitioners may use anesthesia if the procedure leads to bleeding.

Different Micro-Needles Lengths for Different Skin Treatments

Skin aging has several components, and depending on the nature of the treatment, different length needles are used:

  • Better absorption of skin care products

The most basic of all treatments, better absorption of products does not need very deep penetration, so 0.3mm to 0.5 mm needle is good. For the face, don’t use needles thicker than 0.3mm.

  • Wrinkle treatment and Lose Skin

Wrinkle treatment can be facilitated with the help of needles that are 1.5mm in thickness. The procedure can easily be performed at home, but special care has to be taken in disinfecting the skin properly prior to derma rolling.

  • Sun Damage and Pigmentation

For sun damage and pigmentation, use needles that are 0.1 mm and 1.5 mm in thickness.

  • Scars, Stretch marks, and acne scars

For removing scars and marks effectively, what one needs is a single needle instrument that crushes the scars deep with a deep prick density. A needle with 1.5 mm thickness would be the best.

Derma Roller for Daily Use

There are many benefits of Derma Roller. Here we explain a few you can avail by using it on a daily basis.

When a knife cuts the skin, we let the wounds heal over time, and similarly when derma rollers prick the skin, they cause tiny wounds in the skin that may not even be visible. But, since the skin is pricked it is advisable to let it heal naturally over time, before you give it another prick.

Derma Rollers with needles as thick as 0.2 mm to 0.25 mm can be used daily. But, remember, these needles will not help in the production of collagen, but will only lead to temporary enhancement of the absorption of skin care products.

Do Not Use Derma Roller without Applying Cream

Using derma roller without the application of cream may cause pain. Moisturizing the skin means that you are preparing even surface for the roller to slide over it smoothly without chipping the rough edges.
